The secret to dressmaking…

1) Measure yourself as you would for tracking body measurements.

2) Look up what pattern size you should be by matching your measurements to the pattern size chart.

3) Subtract two sizes.  That is your actual dress size.

4) Yes, I’m being completely serious.  The patterns are way too big.   I started on my dress this weekend… carefully pinned to the dress form - it looked like it would fit - MADE ADJUSTMENTS TO MAKE CERTAIN THINGS SMALLER - sewed it up, and tried it on — still too big.  ARGH!!!!

I was busy last night

I got two things in that I ordered. I installed a magazine rack / toilet paper holder from Pottery Barn in our master bathroom. Our wall color is almost identical to the color in the picture.

I also started installing our new garbage disposal! It’s made by Insinkerator, and is designed for septic systems. All I have left is to connect the plumbing, but I have to run by Lowe’s and grab a couple of extra pipes first.

Dress Form is here…

This weekend I’m going to start making my dress.  I couldn’t sleep very well last night because I kept thinking of how I was going to alter the pattern to fit my cup size.  I bought a book that details how to change patterns for a custom fit, but the bust section only went over princess seams and darts, and the dress obviously has neither.  I think I have a game plan though.  Now let’s see if my idea is correct.

Cool Car!!!

I think I must be reading Jerry’s mind. I had a dream last night that Jerry was driving a blue Supra, and wouldn’t you know it, today he’s eyeballingthis Lexus SC300 with a Supra drivetrain conversion. I love the color on this car, and it’s the same color that some late model Supras came in (as well as the same color as the one in my dream). Supras are sweet rides, no doubt, but a Lexus conversion can deliver the same power without the hefty price tag.

Dress Form

Here’s the dress form we’re going to try to get. It’s made by Singer and is one of the few reasonably priced ones that have an adjustable torso length.

Bridesmaid’s Dresses

I’ve volunteered to make the bridesmaid’s dresses for my friend Kelly’s wedding:

1) I’m too cheap to pay retail for a dress

2) Missy (the other bridesmaid) is too cheap to pay retail too! LMAO

3) We are all losing weight and can’t risk buying a dress now and it being too big in May.

Kelly has generously decided to buy a dress form for me to help assure the dresses are tailored perfectly. This is going to be so much fun! Here’s the pattern:

We’ll be making the shorter one.  The construction is pretty simple and straightforward.  I’m very excited to make these!
